Data protection

1. General information

The protection of your personal data is a high priority for Deutsche Telekom AG. It is important to us to inform you about the personal data which we collect during your visit to our websites as well as how these data are used and what your options are in this regard. This data protection notice answers your most important questions.

2. What data are collected and how are they used?

a) For the performance of our services
  • Technical characteristics: When you visit our websites, our web servers temporarily register the domain name or IP address of your computer, the file request of the client (file name and URL), the https response code and the website from which you are visiting us.
  • Cookies:
    • For specific offers, we use cookies that are stored on your computer for the duration of an Internet session only. These so-called session cookies are needed for transactions (e.g. for handling a purchase).
  • Any further personal data such as your name, your address, telephone number or e-mail address are not collected, unless you provide this information voluntarily.

b) For purposes prescribed by law
We use your data for purposes prescribed by law. To detect misuse and to identify and eliminate malfunctions, we record your IP address for one year.

3. Where are my data processed?

Your data are on principle processed in the European Union.

4. How secure are my data?

To protect your data against unauthorised access and misuse, we have taken extensive technical and operational precautions in accordance with German and EU law.

5. Are my data disclosed to third parties, e.g. to government agencies?

Yes, some data must be disclosed under strict contractual and statutory conditions:

a) To external service providers for data processing: Where service providers come into contact with personal data of our clients, this is in the context of so-called commissioned data processing. This commissioned data processing is explicitly provided for by law (sec. 11 Federal Data Protection Act). Telekom remains responsible for the protection of your data even in this case. The service provider only works according to our instructions, which we ensure through strict contractual regulations, through technical and organisational measures and through complementary controls.

b) As required by law: In certain cases, we are required by law to transmit data to an inquiring government entity. If we receive a court order, we are obliged in accordance with sec. 101 Copyright Act to provide owners of copyrights or ancillary copyrights with information about customers who have allegedly offered works protected by copyrights on file sharing websites. In these cases the information we provide comprises the user ID of an IP address allocated at the requested point in time and, if known, the name and address of the customer.

 

Above and beyond this, we disclose no data to third parties, unless you have explicitly agreed or such disclosure is stipulated by law.

6. Is my IP address recorded?

To detect misuse (spam, viruses, worms etc.) and identify and eliminate malfunctions in our network, your IP address is recorded for one year after the connection has ended.

7. Can I request information about my data that has been recorded?

You can request information free of charge about the scope, the origin and the recipients of the data recorded and the purpose for which these were recorded.

8. Can I have data corrected?

You can request incorrect data to be corrected at any time.
